Defeat orcs, dwarves and elves on your way to the royal castle to rescue the queen from the claws of the dragon with wild substitutions, Dragon Fire mystery symbols and a bonus games with free spins and symbol upgrades that can lead to wins of up to 8,282x your stake.

Fans of Roasty McFry and the Flamebusters might have a déjà vu moment as a part of the pay mechanics are the same. Some might even say that it is a clone, however, the Dragon Horn slot does not have a random feature but higher line pays.

Slot Details

Dragon Horn is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 243 ways to win. Pays are awarded for three to five adjacent symbols from left to right only. You can join the knight on his quest to defeat the fire dragon on desktop, mobile or tablet from 0.10 to 100 credits per spins. The RTP of this high variance game is set at 96.10%.

Graphics and Visuals

The slot design has a medieval feel with the game window set in the midst of a village and clouds billowing in the background. It changes to a battleground scene in a mountain valley in the bonus game, advancing you from the village to the royal castle as you progress through the symbol upgrades. The characters from the storyline feature prominently on the wooden-built reels. A medieval soundtrack entertains you in your slotting sessions.

Pay Symbols

Open the game to find five shields in brown, purple, green, blue and red colours at the low end, paying 1x to 2x your bet for a single five of a kind. They are followed by orcs, dwarfs, elves, knights and the queen on the medium level with wins for a 5OAK ranging from 3x to 10x your stake. The fire dragon is the top-paying symbol with 20x your bet when you hit five across the reels.

There is also a wild symbol, represented by a W in medieval style writing and substituting for all regular pay symbols. It can appear on reels two to five only. An intricately designed dragon horn is the scatter symbol on this slot.

Dragon Fire Mystery Symbols

Dragon Fire mystery symbols can land on the reels in any spin during the base game and free spins. In the base game, all instances in view will change to a common medium-value character symbol, the top-paying dragon symbol or the scatter symbol. During the free spins, it can only turn into a regular pay symbol except the low-value shields and scatters. This is one of the moments where you can land a full screen of dragon symbols, leading to a win of 243 times 20x your bet or 4,860x your stake.

The Dragon Horn Bonus Game

Landing three scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin will trigger seven free spins. Any further scatter, which can appear via the mystery symbol feature, will add +2 free spins. During the bonus game, the scene is changing to a battleground with the aim to hit scatters that will progress you on a map to the royal castle and transform shield symbols into mystery symbols.

In the bonus game, you will see two meters on top of the game window. On the left are three dragon horns and on the right is a display for the five coloured shields. Each scatter landing on a free spin will be added to the dragon horn meter as well as awarding +1 free spin. Collect three, to turn the brown shield symbol into a mystery symbol. Every further three collected scatters will progressively transform the purple, green, blue and red shields into mystery symbols.

A total of 15 extra free spins will be awarded when you manage to turn all shield symbols into mystery symbols in one bonus round. There will be only the premium symbols, wilds, scatters and mystery symbols on the reels once all shields have been upgraded. The winning potential in the free spins peaks at 8,282 times your stake.

Final Verdict

I gave Dragon Horn five stars in our rating when I received the first screenshots from Thunderkick and that might have been slightly premature. The game is not bad, it is actually well designed and plays smoothly but I was hoping for some kind of evolution from The Flamebusters slot. Instead, Thunderkick simply took off the random feature and increased the line pays, not very innovative. It will still be quite entertaining to play and the win potential is high enough to see us chasing it.
