Yeehaw, the bandits are back in town on the slot from Quickspin, bolder and meaner than ever. Sticky Bandits: Wild Return sees the trio of desperados getting ready to create havoc in the town saloon with Massive Symbols of up to a 3×3 size, a Quick Slot Bonus game and a Lucky Shot free spins round where the bandits might turn into Sticky Wilds for wins of up to 1,145 times your stake.
Sticky Bandits 2: Wild Return is a video slot with five reels, four rows and 40 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. You can join the menacing trio on desktop or mobile from 0.40 to 100 credits per spins. Just like the bandits, the game is highly volatile with an RTP of 96.22%, of which roughly 48% go to the base game, 17.6% to the bonus mini-game and about 30% to the free spins feature.
The Three Skulls Saloon serves as the background for the base and bonus game. The artists have been hard at work at Quickspin and created a very authentic saloon bar that lets you literally smell the good ol’ Wild West. The scene is changing to the outdoors once the Sticky Bandits are unleashed. The soundtrack is just as elaborate changing from a Western guitar piece to a lively piano in the bonus game and a more fast-paced guitar audio in the free spins.
All pay symbols can appear fully stacked at all times. The card royals from J through to A in the typical style of the era feature at the low end of the game window, awarding 1x to 1.25x your stake for a single five of a kind. They are followed by cigars and whiskey bottles, each paying 2x your bet when five land on a line. The premium symbols are the three bandits – a grey-haired male with a colt, a dark-haired male with a shotgun and the feisty outlaw lady with two golden colts. Hit five on a line to win 3x to 10x your stake.
The game has two wild symbols, with the second appearing in the free spins only. The regular wild is a golden coin marked with the word itself while the Sticky Wild is an intricate icon with golden skulls. Both substitute for all regular pay symbols and award 10x your bet for a 5OAK. A skull wearing a large cowboy hat marked with the word “Bonus” acts as the scatter while an old-style slot machine is the bonus symbol.
Fans of the original Sticky Bandits slot will know what to except, however, Quickspin added a new twist that can pay handsomely. The three bandits can appear in the base game and free spins as Massive Symbols in sizes of 2×2 and 3×3, providing more potential to hit big wins with premium symbols.
It gets even better in the Lucky Shot Free Spins as they can turn into sticky wilds. Skull scatters on reels one, three or five in one spin will trigger seven free spins which cannot be retriggered. A lucky shot is fired after every spin where at least one bandit symbol appears. If the shot hits the bandit symbol, it turns into a Sticky Wild for the remaining free spins. And more is to come when the hit symbol is part of a massive bandit symbol as all positions in view will also turn into sticky wilds. Any other pay symbol being hit will turn into a regular non-sticky wild for the current spin. Wins are evaluated after the wild transformation.
The new feature on Sticky Bandits: Wild Return is the Quick Slot Bonus. It is an in-game feature and triggered when the slot machine symbol lands anywhere on reel five in the base game. A random number from one to three spins on the Quick Slot machine is awarded first before the game leads to a second screen where you will drop the coin to pull the lever for an extra bet multiplier. The old-style slot machine has only four symbols – cherries, bars, horseshoes and 7s – and only one pay line. Winning combinations are shown on the slot board and range from 4x your bet for one cherry to 500x bet for three 7s. However, a win is not guaranteed as you might not hit any of the available combinations.
The team at Quickspin has done a stellar job on the sequel to one of their most successful slots to date. Special kudos must go to the graphic artists and sound engineers as both are simply stunningly well combined to create not just an authentic but also suspenseful gaming experience.
We are just slightly disappointed by the maximum win potential, maybe because we are rather hardcore players. However, the math model is geared more towards medium sized wins, e.g. a 70x bet hit will occur on average every 528 spins, which is a fairly higher hit rate than on other slots. Hence, you might not be in for a super monster win but more regular medium to mega wins. The game though is highly volatile, so be careful with your bet size.
