Avid Microgaming fans will probably remember the coffee house themed slot Cashoccino, a mildly brewed video slot from 2014 that didn’t see many slotting gourmets rushing to have a sip on the reels. Nevertheless, Microgaming thought it would be a could idea to create a sequel and gave it with Le Kaffee Bar a Franco-German title to make it sound like a classy establishment. A place where people would happily spend their money on expensive lattes or in this case on reel spins of up to 30 credits. We took a tour of the coffee house to take a closer look at the creation which comes with a respin feature in the base game and a free spins round with multipliers of up to x5.
Le Kaffee Bar is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 243 ways to win. Wins are paid for adjacent symbols from left to right only. You can enjoy your reel brew on desktop, mobile or tablet from 0.30 to 30 credits per spin. The RTP of this low variance game has been confirmed at 96.51%.
As to be expected the game is set in a traditional coffee house with a melancholic touch on the pay symbols as they are drawn with chalk as seen in many coffee shops. A barista is, of course, present on the reels while a soothing soundtrack spreads a relaxed atmosphere.
Open the game to find the card royals from 9 through to A at the low end of the pay table. They are followed by stovetop espresso makers, cupcakes and Polaroid photos with three characters – the barista, a guy and a red-haired girl. The latter is the top symbol with 10x your bet when you hit five across the reels. All three character symbols appear in stacks on the three centre reels. A coffee mug with the slot logo is the collectable scatter on the Le Kaffeebar slot.
The feature triggers on any spin in the base game and free spins whenever you hit three matching symbols vertically or horizontally. You will get on respin with the winning symbol on reel three only turning into a sticky wild for the spin for a chance to hit another winner. Why on earth the winning symbols are not held as usual with such features is anyone’s guess. Microgaming thought differently.
Surprise, you get to choose from three free spins brews, speak rounds, when you collect sufficient coffee mug scatters, which appear on reels one and five only. You can opt for fewer spins with a lower multiplier or collect more to trigger a higher number and multiplier. Each scatter landing on a spin will be collected in a meter on top of the game window.
Personally, I would go for the third option as the multiplier can make quite a difference. It is, of course, a question of available balance but in any other case, it makes sense to keep collecting the scatters. However, it can take sometimes rather long to get just to 10 scatters as they appear on the front and back reels only, so it is maybe best to go with your gut feeling when to play the free spins.
Kopi luwak or watery instant brew? Well, I would opt for something in between, although trending towards the latter of the two. The Le Kaffee Bar slot is well-designed and keeps things interesting as the respin feature triggers often enough while waiting for those scatters to add up in the collection meter. The win potential is around 2,800 times your bet, so not reaching the level of a fine coffee brew but still better than a cheap instant cuppa.
