Join the monkey astronauts Buck and Chip for a hilarious space expedition on the slot from Slingshot Studios, powered by Microgaming’s Quickfire platform. The two protagonists will turn reels wild, award respins and a free spins round with sticky wild reels for wins of up to 1,000 times your bet. The slot is due for exclusive release on 10th July 2019 at Twin Casino and will go global to months thereafter.
Banana Odyssey is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 10 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded both ways for three to five matching symbols from left to right and from right to left. You can join the monkeys on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to a massive 400 credits per spin. The game has low to medium volatility with an RTP in the 95 – 96% range. We have not been able to confirm the exact RTP at press time but will do so the soon we receive the information.
In line with the latest mediocre creations coming from Microgaming’s assortment of partner studios, Banana Odyssey has little to impress us visually. A simple space background puts a rudimentary game window in the focus of attention. Cartoon-like monkeys together with their guns and favourite food dominate the reels. A chirpy electronic soundtrack from yesteryear is trying very hard but fails to cover up the poor design.
The game has eight regular pay symbols, starting at the low end with the card royals from J through to A. They are followed by a futuristic handgun, a jar with nuts and the two protagonists, Chip and Buck. An icon with planet earth acts as the wild symbol while a simple Free Spins symbol is the scatter on this slot.
Banana Odyssey Slot Features
Not sure what to say but I have the impression that Microgaming has totally abandoned their pursuit to create exciting games. It feels like they are not even trying anymore. Where others come up with new pay mechanics and features, they are taking components from a slot development box and slap them on a set of reels with mediocre payouts. I wonder who in his or her right mind will risk playing Banana Odyssey with 400 credits per spin.
Nevertheless, here’s what you can expect in form of reel entertainment and win potential. First up is the Expanding Wild and Respin Feature. The wild symbol appears on reels two, three and four only, expanding every time it lands to create more chances to hit a win. Not only that, but it will also turn into a sticky wild for a respin. Land more wilds and you’ll get another respin until no new wilds appear or you have all three centre reels as full wilds. Remember, the slot pays both ways, however, a five of a kind is awarded only once.
Prepare for the climax of the monkey show when you hit scatters anywhere on reels two, three and four in one spin. You’ll get 10 free spins which cannot be retriggered. Any wild landing will expand just like in the base game and will turn into a sticky wild reel for the remaining free spins. There is up to 1,000 times your bet to won in the free spins, not that it excites me but a reasonable potential nonetheless.
If you read the review, you probably know what my verdict will be. I can’t stop feeling that all these partner studios working for Microgaming are in a race to find out who can produce the most mediocre slots. There is nothing on Banana Odyssey that makes it entertaining to play, nor will the meagre line pays find many fans.
