Travel back to the future to join Big Bounty Bill on the slot from Kalamba Games. Big Bounty Bill is a video slot with five reels, four rows and 1,024 ways to win in default mode. This can increase during the features to reach seven rows and 16,807 ways. Wins are paid for two to five matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right only. You can be a bounty hunter on desktop or mobile from 0.30 to 120 credits per spin. Some operators might offer it with 300 credits as maximum bet. The game has medium volatility with an RTP range from 97.33% for standard play. Using the various HyperBonus buy options offers an increased RTP range from 97.40% to 97.87%.
Loading the game might remind you of the movie Cowboys & Aliens with Daniel Craig. It certainly has a futuristic feeling mixed into the typical scenery of a 19th century own in the American West. Saloon on one side and jail on the other flank a game window that could come straight from a sci-fi movie. The symbols and animations further emphasize the feeling. The soundtrack is a traditional banjo tune played at a reasonably fast pace and sprinkled with some sci-fi noises.
All pay symbols except bonus scatters can appear stacked at all times. They start at the low end with the card royals from 9 through to A, awarding 1.33x your stake for a single five of a kind. At the high level are horse, bull, a male and a female villain as well as Big Bounty Bill himself. Hit five across the reels to win 2x to 3.33x your stake.
A golden icon with a longhorn skull is the wild symbol, performing the usual substitution duties. A sci-fi revolver is the expansion symbol while a character icon marked with ‘Bonus’ acts as the scatter. The latter appears on reels one, two and three only.
If you played Doctor Electro from Kalamba Games, then you will recognize most of the reel mechanics and features. However, the creators decided to simplify the convoluted gameplay that is usually inherent to their games which often reduces their appeal. Still, there is plenty of action on the reels and we will try again to list them in the best possible order.
First up is the sci-fi handgun expansion symbol as it appears very often, especially in the base game. In default mode, the game window is in a 5×4 format with three more rows covered on top of the reels. Each position has a meter marked with 1, 2 and 4. Every time an expansion symbol lands, it will reduce the count. The more meters reaches zero the more ways to win will open during the Hyper Spins. Worth noting is that the expanded reel positions are not active in the base game. The collection is bet sensitive and will be saved separately.
Land three, four or five expansion symbols to trigger 3, 5 and 7 Hyper Spins respectively, which cannot be retriggered. All expanded positions will become active for the duration of the feature. More positions can be opened during the feature if there are still uncompleted meters, up to the maximum of seven rows and 16,807 ways to win. The reels will reset to the default 5×4 format once the feature concludes.
Next is the Free Spins feature, which is triggered when you land bonus scatters on the first three reels in one spin. You will get an initial 8 free spins with the game window starting in the 5×4 default mode with 1,024 ways. The aim is to land expansion symbols during the free spins to increase the ways to win. Any completed meter will unlock one position and award +1 free spin. This continues until either all positions are unlocked or you run out of free spins.
Too impatient to wait for an organic feature trigger? Then use the Hyper Bonus buy feature to gain direct access to the bonus round by placing one single large bet. Once you hit the button on the right of the game window, you will enter a second screen with four options:
Well, it is refreshing to see that Kalamba took a step back from the convoluted game design and scaled it all back to a more normal level on Big Bounty Bill. There is nothing more annoying than to open a game in anticipation to have a good reel session, only to find out that to understand it you will need to read the rules for an entire day and might still not have a full grasp of how all mechanics work.
We decided to review this game simply because we liked the underlying mechanics on Doctor Electro. However, will still do not like the relatively high cost for the feature buys while the rest is entertaining enough to give this slot a few spins once in a while.
