Here we go again. The next game studio is jumping on the “Book of…” bandwagon. Surely they must be running out of names soon as the number of clones will surpass 100 soon. The honours goes this time to iSoftBet, releasing their take under the name of Book of Immortals. The slot has some twists and turns that will separate it from other titles but the basic pay mechanic is still the expanding symbols in the free spins.
Book of Immortals is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 10 fixed pay lines. You can encounter the Egyptian gods on desktop and mobile from 0.10 to 10 credits per spin. The RTP of this medium variance game is set at 96.31%.
The theme is as expected Egyptian with the river Nile flowing through the middle of the screen, a Horus statue on the left, the large desert in the background and two typical columns on each side. The game window itself is flanked by two hieroglyph columns with four Egyptian gods featuring prominently on the reels. The graphics in ultra HD look stunning. An oriental soundtrack rounds off a well-designed slot.
At the low end, you will find the card royals from 10 to A, awarding pays from 2.5x to 4x your stake for a single five of a kind. They are followed at the high level in ascending order by the Egyptian gods and goddesses Bastet, Khnum, Ra and Anubis. Pays for hitting five on a line increase to 5x to 15x your bet. Overall, considerably less than what we are used from other “Book of …” slots.
The wild and scatter symbol is a scarab on a hieroglyphic panel. Land three to five of them scattered to trigger 10 free spins and a coin win of 2x, 20x and 200x the total bet respectively.
The feature can trigger randomly on any spin in the base game. Up to 10 scarabs will land on symbols in view to turning them into a common high-value symbol. Except to score wins from 10x to 50x your stake.
Hit minimum three scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin to trigger 10 free spins which cannot be retriggered but more can be won when the +3 symbol appears in the symbol selector on top of the game window.
Before the round starts, the two columns on each side turn into obelisks, each displaying two of the gods. This will play a significant role in the free spins. Plus, an extra reel is added at the top of the game window. It will spin together with the other reels and the symbol stopping in view will be the special symbol for that spin.
If minimum three low-value or two high-value symbols land on the reels on the free spin, they will expand and award scattered pays on all 10 pay lines when they stop in view on the extra reel. In any other case, the extra reel will not spin again until a win with the special symbol in view lands on the reels. After a win and the expansion for the current spin, it will randomly select a different pay symbol for the next free spin.
And there is one more kicker. Any of the four gods and goddesses that are coming up as a special symbol will be added to their position on the respective obelisk and will turn into immortal symbols when you hit a win with them on a free spin. They are then removed from the extra reel and will now expand to pay the respective scattered wins on 10 pay lines whenever minimum two symbols land on a subsequent free spin. This can lead to having multiple symbols expanding in one free spin and provides the best opportunity on the slot to score mega wins.
Book of Immortals is indeed in its own world as the special symbol selection is very different from the standard “Book of…” slots. However, the line pays are so heavily reduced that it actually has a much lower win potential. Book of Ra, Book of Dead and other similar slots peak at 5,000x your bet in a single free spin while Book of Immortals stops at a mere 638 times your stake. Whether that is the right strategy remains to be seen.
