The popular Rainbow Riches series from Barcrest is getting another addition to what seem to be dozens already out there. Questions that come up are whether the world needs another in the endless series and second, whether it is actually a slot we would like to play. Barcrest certainly seems to think that cramp more features into a slot will have the player community buzzing, which is far from the truth and even further away from the pretty bare original. Time to take a closer look.
Rainbow Riches Leprechauns Gold is a video slot with seven reels (YES!), five rows and 50 pay lines. Wins are paid from left to right only. Enter the leprechauns realm on mobile or desktop from 0.10 to an insane 500 credits. The RTP of this medium variance game is set in a range between 94% to 97.75%, base on bets below 2 credits | bets higher than 2 credits | using the Big Bet feature. Not really our preference as it puts low rollers at a significant disadvantage.
Open the game to find the familiar background with lush greenery, distant mountains and a blue sky. Wonder though where the rainbow is as that has featured in some form on all slots from this series. Oh yes, it was moved on to the reels of the giant game window with seven reels, which does not necessarily mean bigger wins. The design is as ever colourful and cheerful, accompanied by a catchy soundtrack while the reels are turning.
Typical Irish lucky symbols populate the reels, however, you will find the very mundane card suits – clubs, hearts, diamond and spades – at the low end. They are followed by clovers, horseshoes, mushrooms, harps, rainbows and the Rainbow Riches logo. Pays for a single five… ahem! seven of a kind range from 4x to 20x your stake. A tile with a golden Leprechaun coin is the wild symbol, substituting as usual for all regular pay symbols. Lastly, there is the lucky leprechaun bonus symbol which will take you to the feature selector.
This is the moment where Barcrest must have thought that it would be a good thing to throw all bonus features they can into the mix. Time will tell if that is the right strategy. Anyway, here is the list in chronological order.
The first and most apparent as it does not necessarily lead to anything worth mentioning is the random Lucky Leprechauns Bonus. He will add more bonus symbols to the reels, thus providing a higher chance of triggering the bonus round or potentially awarding an upgrade to the Rainbow Bonus Spinner.
The Rainbow Ring Bonus Spinner will come into play if you land three or more bonus symbols on the reels. You will get one spin on a rainbow wheel where you can win the Mystery Symbol, Wild Rover Bonus or Free Spins.
You want to bet big and score even bigger wins. Then activating the Big Bet modus might be just the right choice. It will cost you 20.00, 30.00 or 50.00 credits for five spins and will activate two extra features – Super Rainbow Reels and Wild Cash.
The Super Rainbow reels will highlight minimum one, two or three reels on every spin or free spin respectively and any Wild Cash symbols landing on the rainbow reels will award a coin win. Once that is paid, the symbol will turn into a standard wild symbol.
The line pays for regular symbols are also increased when the Big Bet is active, increasing from 4x to 20x to 40x to 200x your stake for a single seven of a kind. Plus of course, you get to benefit from the enhanced RTP rate.
Well, what is the verdict on whether the world needed another Rainbow Riches slot? I opt for giving it a miss, this addition is not overly exciting and too cramped with features that each eat up a chunk of the RTP and thus none can pay really big. But I suppose it will find its fans just like all other slots from the series.
